Adam N. Glynn is the Winship Distinguished Research Professor of Political Science at Emory University (since 2018) and holds an Associate Professor appointment in the Department of Political Science. Previously, he served as Associate Professor at Harvard University (2010–2014). He is also the Associate Director of Emory's Institute for Quantitative Theory and Methods (IQTM) and holds a secondary appointment in Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. Glynn earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Washington (2006) and a B.A. in Economics from Johns Hopkins University (1997).
His research focuses on causal inference, survey design, and political methodology, with notable contributions to the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) project. His work bridges statistical innovation and applied political science, addressing topics such as judicial decision-making, police accountability, and democratic institutions. Glynn has authored influential papers in top journals like the American Journal of Political Science and Journal of the American Statistical Association.
He has received prestigious awards, including the Gosnell Prize (2013) and the Lijphart/Przeworski/Verba Dataset Award (2016). Glynn teaches advanced courses on causal inference and regression analysis at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has advised numerous Ph.D. students, many of whom hold academic positions at leading institutions.
His service includes roles on NSF grant panels, editorial boards, and academic search committees. Glynn’s interdisciplinary work extends to software development (e.g., R packages qualCI and CausalGAM) and collaborative projects like the V-Dem dataset, a cornerstone of comparative democracy research.
