Adam Miller

Adam Miller is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics & Astronomy within Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences at Northwestern University. He is a member of CIERA and serves as the Program Director for the LSSTC Data Science Fellowship Program.

His research focuses on observations from optical time-domain surveys to study stellar evolution, particularly star formation (via accretion outbursts like FU Ori-like eruptions) and stellar death (via supernovae explosions). He investigates how solar-mass stars grow in infancy and the mechanisms driving supernovae explosions, leveraging data science and collaborations with facilities like the Vera C. Rubin Observatory and Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF).

His work includes studying rare supernovae phenomena, such as the extremely energetic SN2016aps, which may have originated from a very massive star in a dense medium. This aligns with his broader interests in compact objects, variable stars, and multi-messenger astronomy.
