Adam M. Samaha is the Inez Milholland Professor of Civil Liberties at the New York University School of Law. He holds a JD from Harvard Law School (1996) and a BA in History & Government from Bowdoin College (1992). His research focuses on constitutional law, statutory interpretation, and the role of courts in society, including studies on judicial behavior, disability law, and Second Amendment litigation.
Professor Samaha has been recognized with the Podell Distinguished Teaching Award (2017) and the Graduating Students Award for Teaching Excellence at the University of Chicago Law School (2007). He has collaborated on research projects, including an analysis of appellate practices in federal circuits, revealing insights into brief length and attorney performance.
He teaches courses such as Constitutional Interpretation Seminar, Constitutional Law, and Legislation and the Regulatory State. His scholarly work bridges theoretical and empirical approaches, examining how legal institutions operate under conditions of disagreement and resource constraints.
