Adam M Lifshey is a Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Georgetown University's College. His research focuses on 20th/21st century Latin American literature, film, and music within global contexts, with recent work in Taiwan Studies. He holds a B.A. in U.S. History and Literature from Harvard, an M.A. in Spanish from the University of Virginia, an M.A. in Taiwan Studies from the University of London, and a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from UC Berkeley.
His research interests span comparative cultural studies, including Philippine and Taiwanese literature, globalization's impact on literature, and feminist analysis. He has authored four academic books, including award-winning works like The Magellan Fallacy and Subversions of the American Century. His creative writing includes the novel As Green as Paradise, praised for its magical realism.
Teaching emphasizes open-ended exploration, aiming to broaden students' global perspectives. Current courses include Caribbean literature and Roberto Bolaño's novels. Awards include Georgetown's Distinguished Achievement in Research Award (2017) and the A-Asia/ICAS Africa-Asia Prize (2015).
Prior experiences include teaching Chinese history in Mexico, reporting on a Peruvian hostage crisis for a Japanese newspaper, and early work on West African literature.
