Adam Lloyd is a Lecturer in the English Department at the University of Maryland, affiliated with the College of Arts and Humanities. He specializes in business writing, technical writing, and digital rhetoric, with a focus on integrating AI into academic and professional discourse. Since 2007, he has taught courses such as Writing in the Wireless World and ENGL 491: Digital Rhetoric at the Dawn of Extra-Human Discourse. His classes partner with companies like the American Heart Association and 3M to produce practical deliverables.
Lloyd holds a PhD in English, along with advanced degrees in philosophy and national security studies. He founded and edited Interpolations, the first peer-reviewed undergraduate journal in the English department. Awards include the 2021 Professional Track Faculty Teaching Excellence Award and the 2010 James A. Robinson Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching of Writing.
He has served on university committees including the University Senate and the English Department’s Executive Committee. Beyond academia, he is a freelance journalist with contributions to Cigar Aficionado and the Washington Post, and previously founded the startup GradFree.
