Dr. Tyler Easterbrook is an Assistant Professor of English and Director of Composition at the University of Idaho’s Department of English, housed within the College of Letters, Arts & Social Sciences. He earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2021) and a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (2013). His research focuses on conspiracy rhetoric, digital misinformation, and their intersections with contemporary American politics, alongside composition studies and pedagogical innovation. As Director of Composition, he oversees first-year writing programs, emphasizing accessible, tech-light approaches to education.
Dr. Easterbrook’s work bridges rhetorical theory and practical pedagogy. His teaching includes graduate courses on pedagogy (ENGL 598: Pedagogy and Practice) and portfolio development (ENGL 598: Teaching Portfolio), as well as undergraduate writing courses (ENGL 101). He has received the Student Undergraduate Teaching and Staff Award (UNC-Chapel Hill, 2021) and a $30,000 CFE/Lenovo Instructional Innovation Grant (2019). His recent publications explore pandemic-era educational challenges and the rhetorical strategies of conspiracist discourse.
His scholarship highlights the role of broken links in conspiracist communication and the rhetorical tactics of political figures like Donald Trump. He advocates for adaptable teaching methods in higher education, particularly in resource-limited settings.
