Daniel Anderson is a Professor and Tenure Stream Faculty at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, serving as Director of the Writing Program and Director of the Carolina Digital Humanities Initiative. He also leads the Digital Innovation Lab, focusing on digital rhetoric, technology in education, and innovative scholarly practices. Anderson holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas at Austin (1997) and a B.A. in English from the University of New Mexico (1990).
His research explores digital humanities, pedagogical innovation, and the intersection of technology with traditional scholarly forms. Key areas include screen rhetoric, multimodal composition, and the reimagining of scholarly communication through platforms like Prospect and PeerPress. Anderson’s work bridges literary studies with emerging digital media, emphasizing both theoretical and practical applications.
Anderson has received over 30 teaching and research awards, including the Friday Center Award for Teaching Excellence (2013) and the Chapman Award for Excellence in Teaching (2003). His grants total over $1.5 million, supporting initiatives in digital pedagogy and scholarly innovation. Notable publications include Connections: A Guide to Online Writing and forthcoming Screen Rhetoric and the Material World.
He teaches courses such as Digital Editing and Curation (ENGL 675), Digital Literature (ENGL 674), and Entrepreneurial Writing on the Web (ENGL 69). His work integrates experimental digital methods into traditional humanities scholarship, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across campus labs and research teams.
