معرفی
Adam Lerner, MD is a Professor of Medicine and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, where he serves as a medical oncologist at Boston Medical Center (BMC). He has held multiple significant positions including Professor in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Member of the BU-BMC Cancer Center, Member of the Evans Center for Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research, Member of the Genome Science Institute, and Graduate Faculty (Primary Mentor of Grad Students) at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, Graduate Medical Sciences.
Dr. Lerner received his MD from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Boston City Hospital. He pursued his fellowship in Medical Oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, where he conducted research in the cellular and molecular biology of T lymphocytes. Since 1996, he has been a member of the Hematology/Oncology Section at Boston Medical Center.
His research focuses on two primary areas: 1) The therapeutic potential of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase inhibitors in lymphoid malignancies; and 2) The mechanism by which a novel adapter protein (BCAR3/AND-34) modulates focal adhesion complex signaling in mesenchymal, epithelial and hematopoietic cells. His clinical expertise includes treating patients with hematologic malignancies, cutaneous malignancies, and sarcomas, with specific expertise in CLL, Leukemia, Lymphoid malignancies, Sarcoma, Breast cancer, and cAMP signaling.
Dr. Lerner's recent publications (2015-2024) demonstrate a continued focus on hematologic malignancies, particularly multiple myeloma and lymphoma, with increasing attention to health disparities, treatment safety protocols, and novel therapeutic approaches. His work spans basic science research on molecular mechanisms to clinical trials and observational studies addressing real-world treatment challenges.
His scientific awards include:
- NHLBI Award (2008-2013)
- NCI RO1 Awards (2005-2010)
- DOD Breast Cancer Idea Award (2001-2004)
- American Society of Clinical Oncology Career Development Award (1998-2001)
- American Cancer Society Research Award (1997-1998)
As a dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Lerner has served as primary mentor for graduate students and has been actively involved in clinical research training through multiple NIH-funded programs, particularly the Research Training in Blood Diseases and Resources (T32HL007501) which he has been involved with since 2008. His research has been supported by numerous grants from NIH, DOD, and pharmaceutical companies including Genentech, Millennium Pharmaceuticals, and Kyowa Hakko Kirin Pharma.
Dr. Lerner is part of the BU-BMC Cancer Center and the Evans Center for Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research, where his laboratory research continues to investigate molecular pathways relevant to cancer biology and treatment resistance.
