Professor Adam Kucharski is a faculty member at the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, where he holds the Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology position. He co-directs the Centre for Epidemic Preparedness and Response and contributes to the Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases.
- Education:
- BSc in Mathematics, University of Warwick (2009)
- PhD in Applied Mathematics, University of Cambridge (2012)
- Postdoc at Imperial College London (2012-2013)
His research focuses on mathematical and statistical approaches to infectious disease outbreaks, integrating surveillance data, social behavior studies, and serological surveys to analyze transmission dynamics and intervention impacts. Key areas include directly transmitted pathogens (COVID-19, influenza, Ebola) and arboviruses (dengue, Zika), with recent work on geospatial immunity gaps and vaccine hesitancy in the Dominican Republic. He develops open-source tools like epiparameterDB and serojump for outbreak analytics.
Scientific awards include the Adams Prize (2023) and SPI-M-O Award for Modelling and Data Support (2023). He has led grants from Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council, Francis Crick Institute, and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Professional roles include membership in the WHO R&D Blueprint Epidemic Modelling Working Group and **UK Pandemic Sciences Network Management Group**.
As an educator, he co-organizes the MSc module 'Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases (20240352)' and teaches outbreak analysis. His public engagement spans citizen science projects, school/museum events, and media collaborations.
