Adam Knowles is a Research Fellow at the University of Zurich's Department of Philosophy within the Philosophical Faculty. His research focuses on Heidegger studies, phenomenology, Holocaust Studies, fascist ideology, and the history of ideas. He holds a PhD from the New School for Social Research (2014) and previously served as Assistant Professor at Drexel University (2014–2021). His career includes postdoctoral roles at institutions like the Volkswagen-Stiftung (2019–2020) and guest professorships at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (2019).
Teaching responsibilities in Fall 2025 include courses on 19th/20th-century philosophy and Frantz Fanon's key texts. His publications critically examine Heidegger's political affinities, silence as a philosophical and political concept, and intersections between ethics, colonialism, and ancient philosophy. Recent work analyzes Heidegger's engagement with fascism and Nazi ideology through his unpublished writings.
Publications span monographs, edited volumes, and journals, with notable contributions to Research in Phenomenology and Zeitschrift für Medien- und Kulturforschung. His interdisciplinary approach bridges continental philosophy with historical and ethical inquiries.
