Adam Johnson is the Phil and Penny Knight Professor of Creative Writing in Stanford University's Department of English. An enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, he joined Stanford in 1999 as a Wallace Stegner Fellow and advanced through lectureships before becoming a full professor. His acclaimed novels include the Pulitzer-winning The Orphan Master's Son and National Book Award-winning Fortune Smiles.
Research Focus: Johnson explores creative writing methodologies with emphasis on novel development, indigeneity, oral traditions, counter narratives, trauma theory, and speculative fiction. His work often addresses sociopolitical themes through literary innovation.
