Adam J. Wilson is an Associate Professor and Director of Emerging Media Technology in the Department of Entertainment Technology at the School of Technology & Design, City University of New York (CUNY). His research focuses on computational creativity in music improvisation, developing software for real-time collaboration between computers and human musicians.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Music Composition from the University of California, San Diego
- Master of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College
Research Interests: Dr. Wilson's primary research area is computer music, with an emphasis on computational creativity in improvisation. He develops systems for real-time musical collaboration between humans and computers, using algorithmic composition and generative techniques. His performances on the fretless electric guitar have taken him to international venues including Tokyo, Paris, and Montreal. He co-founded and directs the New York City Electroacoustic Improvisation Summit, an annual concert series at City Tech.
Professional Background: Before joining City Tech, Dr. Wilson spent eight years as a software engineer in the tech industry, working on web development and SaaS applications. Additionally, he is a certified secondary school teacher and has experience teaching in the New York City public school system.
