Adam J. Vanhove is an Associate Professor and Advisor in the Department of Organizational Science and Leadership at James Madison University's School of Strategic Leadership Studies within the College of Business. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Colorado State University, and a B.A.S. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota Duluth. His research focuses on employee resilience, preventive mental health, employment discrimination, followership dynamics, and leader-follower relations. He teaches courses in human resource management, leadership theory, multivariate statistics, and research methods in the Strategic Leadership Studies Ph.D. program.
His work spans organizational behavior, psychological assessment, and workplace equity, with emphasis on reducing bias in personnel evaluations and improving organizational well-being. Key contributions include studies on assessment center biases, resilience measurement frameworks, and the impact of workplace discrimination based on gender, race, and weight. He has published in journals like International Journal of Selection and Assessment, Public Integrity, and Applied Psychology.
Vanhove's expertise includes military and extreme environment resilience training evaluations, statistical methods for HR outcomes, and meta-analytic approaches to organizational research. His recent work explores leader-follower role expectations and the integration of individual/team resilience frameworks. He actively contributes to professional societies like SIOP and the Academy of Management.
