Adam Higgins is a Professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological, & Environmental Engineering at Oregon State University's College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Georgia Institute of Technology (2008) and dual B.S./B.A. degrees in Bioengineering and International Studies from Oregon State University (2002). His research focuses on biotransport phenomena in biomedical processes, including stabilization of biomolecules/cells via cryopreservation, lyophilization, and spray drying, as well as high-flow microfluidic devices and mathematical modeling for biomedical applications.
Key research groups include Computation and Simulation and Health and Biotechnology. His Higgins Laboratory develops technologies for organ transplantation, cell therapy, and neonatal care (e.g., microfluidic photoreactors for jaundice treatment). Recent work emphasizes cryoprotectant dynamics in tissues, osmotic response modeling, and toxicity optimization in vitrification solutions. The lab maintains a Google Scholar profile and collaborates on projects like kidney organoid cryopreservation and erythrocyte preservation methods.
Education background includes advanced studies in bioengineering with a multidisciplinary foundation in international studies. Professional activities include curriculum development and active learning strategies in engineering education. Contact information includes his OSU email (adam.higgins@oregonstate.edu) and lab address in Corvallis, Oregon.
