Adalberto Simeone serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at KU Leuven's Faculty of Engineering Science. He is embedded within the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) unit at the Arenberg campus and holds dual affiliation with the DigiSoc – KU Leuven Digital Society Institute. His institutional roles include membership on the Faculty Council of Engineering Science, the Programme Committee for Digital Humanities, and the Computer Science Department Council.
His research pioneers cross-disciplinary intersections of:
- Virtual and Augmented Reality systems design
- Spatial behavior analysis in immersive environments
- Physical-digital environment integration
- AI-driven virtual human interaction
- 360-degree spatial cognition applications
- Sustainable system interfaces
Publication trends reveal consistent contributions to ACM SIGCHI and IEEE VIS conferences since 2015, emphasizing empirical studies of embodied interaction in virtual spaces. His work bridges theoretical HCI frameworks with real-world applications in healthcare, education, and environmental systems.
Dr. Simeone directs multiple major grants including Hybrid Everyday Spaces: Remote Living – Working – Playing Together (2025-2028) and Virtual Agents in Cross-Reality (2025-2029), totaling over €5M in active funding. These projects foster collaborations across engineering, medical, and social science domains at KU Leuven.
He leads the Human-Computer Interaction subdivision within the Department of Computer Science while advancing strategic initiatives through the DigiSoc Institute, focusing on societal implications of emerging reality technologies.
