Abraham Winitzer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. His scholarship focuses on ancient Near East languages (Akkadian, Aramaic, Hebrew) and the cultural/intellectual history of the region, particularly through Akkadian literature and the Hebrew Bible in its ancient context.

- Mesopotamian divination systems
- Comparative mythological frameworks (e.g., Nergal/Ereškigal vs. Jacob's ladder)

- Historiography of Near Eastern studies, especially A. Leo Oppenheim's legacy
