Abolfazl Masoudi is a Researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), USA. Previously, he held an Associate Professor position in microbial ecology at Hebei Normal University, China (2021–2023) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship there (2018–2021). He earned his PhD in Entomology from Northwest A&F University, China (2014–2018), and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in agricultural sciences from institutions in Iran.
Education:
- PhD in Entomology (Invertebrate Pathology), Northwest A&F University, China (2014–2018)
- Postdoc in Fungal Ecology, Hebei Normal University, China (2018–2021)
- Master of Science in Agricultural Biotechnology (Fungal Entomopathogens), Shahrood University of Technology, Iran (2010–2013)
- Bachelor of Science in Agronomy and Plant Breeding, Isfahan University of Technology, Iran (2004–2010)
Research Interests: His work focuses on microbial ecology, entomopathogenic fungi, and metagenomics. Key areas include urban soil microbiology (e.g., antibiotic resistance genes), microbial community assembly in forests, and the impact of human activities on ecosystems. Recent projects in Professor Keyhani’s lab explore insect-fungal pathogen interactions and fungicide resistance in disturbed environments.
Key Research Themes:
- Entomopathogenic fungi diversity and distribution
- Urban soil resistome dynamics
- Tick and insect cold tolerance mechanisms
- Proteomic analysis of host-pathogen interactions
Labs and Collaborations: Current affiliation with the Keyhani Lab at UIC and prior collaborations at Hebei Normal University and the University of Florida. Research employs high-throughput sequencing (HTS) and metagenomics to study microbial communities in ecological contexts.
