Abner Louissaint, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and serves as Assistant Pathologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also holds the position of Medical Director for the Core Laboratory in Hematology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Louissaint completed his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College followed by residency and fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is board certified in Hematopathology and Anatomic/Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
His research focuses on the molecular characterization of disease entities for classification and prediction of prognosis and treatment response. Key research areas include:
- Molecular characterization of follicular lymphoma, with special focus on pediatric follicular lymphomas and t(14;18) negative cases
- Molecular studies of thymomas and thymic carcinomas
- Genomic analyses of cutaneous T-cell and B-cell lymphomas
Dr. Louissaint's publication record demonstrates significant contributions to lymphoma classification systems, particularly through his involvement in the WHO Classification of Haematolymphoid Tumours. His work spans multiple subfields including molecular pathology, cancer genomics, and therapeutic development for hematologic malignancies.
As faculty in the Autopsy Service at Massachusetts General Hospital, he contributes to the approximately 350 annual autopsies performed, representing about 13% of hospital deaths, and participates in educational activities for residents and medical students.
