Dr. Abmael Cardoso is a Researcher at the University of Wisconsin's Forage Extension program, focusing on sustainable agricultural practices and climate change mitigation. His work bridges ecological and agricultural systems, emphasizing greenhouse gas emissions, nutrient management, and soil health in rangelands and grazing systems.
Previously at the University of Florida, he studied prescribed fire management in subtropical rangelands. Key research interests include cover crop systems during organic transitions, livestock nutrition, and the environmental impacts of dung and nitrogen fertilization. He leads projects on carbon sequestration potential in grasslands and evaluates additive strategies to reduce methane emissions from cattle.
His research employs advanced tools like Eddy Covariance Towers and static chambers for emission quantification. Collaborations include work on tropical pasture management, silvopasture systems, and the role of legumes in soil organic matter dynamics. Dr. Cardoso's work addresses both production efficiency and environmental sustainability in livestock systems.
