Abigail Saguy is a Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her research focuses on how cultural schemas shape power relations and empower marginalized groups through identity politics. She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University and a doctoral degree from L’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris. Her work examines gender, sexual harassment law, fatness stigma, and the sociopolitical implications of 'coming out' narratives.
Her current book project, *Gender Collisions*, explores tensions between gender liberation projects and their societal implications. Recent research includes analyzing parenting ideologies across political divides, gender-neutral identity documents, and the sociocultural framing of obesity. She has been a Russell Sage Foundation Fellow (2023–2024) and recipient of the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award (2017). Her collaborative work spans institutions like the National Science Foundation and involves scholars such as Juliet Williams and Mallory Rees.
Saguy advises graduate students including Jessica Huerta and Mallory Rees. Her lab examines topics like legal doctrine evolution, media influence on public health perceptions, and intersectional gender politics. She has published extensively on gender neutrality, sexual harassment law, and fat activism, with her books *What’s Wrong with Fat?* (2013) and *Come Out, Come Out, Whoever You Are* (2020) as key contributions.
