Abdullah Al-Jabassini is an EUI Civica Fellow at the Max Weber Programme for Postdoctoral Studies, European University Institute, Florence. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Kent and specializes in political violence, rebel governance, and local governance in areas of limited statehood, with a regional focus on southern Syria.
His research explores wartime social order in tribal regions, integrating insights from anthropology and sociology into civil war studies. He investigates dynamics between rebel leaders and tribal shaykhs, civilian agency, and the transformation of governance during and after conflict.
