Abdulgafoor M. Bachani is an Associate Professor in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is affiliated with the Center for Global Health and serves as the Director of the Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit (IIRU), leading a multidisciplinary team focused on injury prevention and health systems strengthening globally.

Dr. Bachani’s research centers on health systems, injury prevention, disability measurement, and rehabilitation access in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). His work emphasizes innovative methods for data collection, policy influence, and sustainable capacity building in trauma and injury research across Africa and Asia. He investigates the long-term health and economic impacts of injuries and develops scalable tools for disability screening and road safety interventions.
His recent publications show a strong focus on pediatric rehabilitation training, global access to professional development for rehabilitation workers, trauma research capacity in Vietnam, and urban road safety in Southeast Asia. The research spans public health, policy, and implementation science, with practical applications in improving care for the injured and expanding rehabilitation services.
