Abdul Waheed Awan is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical & Automotive Engineering and Award Leader for MSc Automotive Engineering at Staffordshire University's School of Creative Arts and Engineering. He has served as Course Leader for BEng (Hons) with a Foundation Year and teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Mechanical and Automotive Engineering since 2015.
His academic journey includes a PhD in Tribology (Mechanical Engineering) from Bournemouth University, supported by a prestigious BU PhD Scholarship and a JNU South Korea Scholarship. Prior to this, he worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham on an Innovate UK-funded £1M Low Rolling Resistance Tyre Project, and as a visiting researcher at SKF Engineering & Research Centre in the Netherlands. Earlier roles include Manager (Technical) at the Centre for Fluid and Structure Mechanics in Pakistan, leading CFD and structural analysis projects.
Research interests focus on Tyre Dynamics (modelling, testing, and analysis), Structural Integrity, Contact Mechanics, and FE-based simulation. His work spans tribology, suspension design, and wear analysis. Recent publications address advanced suspension systems, additive manufacturing for gas turbines, and tire performance under varying conditions.
Professional credentials include Chartered Engineer (CEng, UK), Fellow of HEA (FHEA), and membership in IMechE and Pakistan Engineering Council. Awards include travel grants enabling global conference participation and technical course attendance.
Teaching responsibilities include leading Level 7 postgraduate modules like Advanced Vehicle Dynamics and Technical Paper Authoring, alongside undergraduate courses in mechanics, vibration analysis, and engineering science. His research has been published in venues like Tire Technology Conferences, STLE Conferences, and journals such as the Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences.
