Dr. Abdul Hye is a Senior Research Scientist at King’s College London, affiliated with the School of Academic Psychiatry and the Department of Old Age Psychiatry. With over 15 years of expertise in biomarker research for neurodegenerative disorders, he has made significant contributions to Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).
- BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology (1999)
- PhD in Neuroscience (2008)
His research focuses on proteomics and immunoassays (including ELISA, MSD, and Simoa) for disease biomarker discovery. He pioneered a 2006 seminal paper (cited 400+ times) identifying blood biomarkers for AD, which was patented by King’s College London. In 2014, he led a large-cohort study combining biomarkers and brain imaging to predict disease progression, garnering global media attention.
Currently, he applies his methodology to understudied neurodegenerative disorders like PD and DLB. He is based at the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute in London, utilizing techniques such as two-dimensional electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, immunoprecipitation, and immunohistochemistry.
