Abdesalam Soudi

Abdesalam Soudi is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Pittsburgh, within the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. He is also a Faculty Fellow with the Honors College and a Faculty Affiliate with the African Studies Center at Pitt. His work bridges linguistics, healthcare communication, and cultural studies.

Research Interests:

Dr. Soudi’s research lies at the intersection of language, healthcare, and culture. His major areas of focus include Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Arabic linguistics, medical discourse, cross-cultural communication, and sociolinguistics. He is the Lead Innovator of The Cultural Engagement Playbook™, a framework designed to foster inclusive, culturally responsive environments in education and healthcare settings.

Project Leadership:

He serves as the Primary Investigator of the Humanities @ Work in the Community, Health, and Tech Industries initiative, a strategic project under the Pitt Strategic Plan (2025).

Publications and Impact:

Dr. Soudi has contributed to a wide range of peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. His work spans from analyzing doctor-patient communication in clinical settings to exploring how cultural and linguistic diversity affects healthcare delivery. He co-edited the 2020 volume Diversity Across the Disciplines: Research on People, Policy, Process, and Paradigm, which highlights interdisciplinary approaches to equity and inclusion.
