Dr. Aaron Tkaczynski is a Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Events at the School of Business, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Queensland. He has been employed at UQ since 2009 and holds an additional extraordinary Associate Professor position at North-West University in South Africa since 2021. His academic career follows prior experience in local government with Hervey Bay City Council, Redland Shire Council, and the Local Government Association of Queensland.
Dr. Tkaczynski's research interests span multiple domains within tourism studies, with a particular focus on nature-based tourism, eco-certification, social marketing, Christian events, and small-scale festivals. His expertise in market segmentation modeling has led to impactful research collaborations with diverse organizations including Easterfest (Australia), Winnipeg Fringe Festival (Canada), and Johannesburg International Mozart Festival (South Africa).
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on sustainability issues in tourism, with particular attention to eco-certification barriers, koala conservation, and electric vehicle impacts on drive tourism. His work also explores niche tourism markets including Christian conferences, dog-related events, and wildlife tourism. Dr. Tkaczynski's research often bridges academic theory with practical applications, as evidenced by his work being directly implemented in event marketing strategies.

Dr. Tkaczynski has received research funding including a UQ Early Career Researcher Open grant for "Maximising return on profitable and environmentally sustainable whale watching segments" (2017) and a Fraser Coast Opportunities Open grant for an "Event Feasibility Project" (2016).
As a supervisor, Dr. Tkaczynski has completed guidance for multiple PhD candidates whose research focused on topics including data quality in online surveys, tourist travel intention in Malaysia, and language proficiency in travel risk perception. He is currently available for supervision of new research students.
Dr. Tkaczynski is actively involved in community initiatives, particularly in koala conservation efforts in South East Queensland and Christian-oriented events. His work has been recognized through media interviews with major broadcasting corporations including South African Broadcasting Corporation and Australian Broadcasting Corporation Radio.
