معرفی
Aaron Schindeler is an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, holding academic positions in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (Faculty of Engineering) and as a Conjoint Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine & Health. He leads the Bioengineering & Molecular Medicine (BAMM) Laboratory at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and the Westmead Institute for Medical Research. His work integrates engineering and medical research to address pediatric musculoskeletal health challenges, particularly genetic bone disorders like neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and osteogenesis imperfecta (OI).
Dr. Schindeler’s research focuses on developing gene therapies, novel biomaterials, and drug delivery systems. He has pioneered bone-targeted AAV vectors for gene editing and explored repurposing drugs to treat bone fragility. His team also investigates 3D printing for bone tissue engineering and dietary interventions for muscular dystrophies.
With over 120 peer-reviewed publications and grants from NHMRC and ARC, his work spans preclinical models (mouse, ovine) and clinical trials, including a phase 2a trial for L-carnitine in NF1. He collaborates across disciplines, involving engineers, clinicians, and geneticists to translate discoveries into therapies.
