Linda Popplewell

Linda Popplewell is a Professor of Molecular Therapies at Teesside University's National Horizons Centre. She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Southampton (1993). Her research focuses on pre-clinical development of gene therapies for rare neuromuscular diseases, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy and neurofibromatosis type 1, using technologies like gene editing and antisense oligonucleotides. She has collaborated with industry, advancing therapies to clinical trials, with one achieving FDA approval. She also engages in public outreach and serves on committees like the British Society of Gene and Cell Therapy and Duchenne Parent Project Spain.
