Aaron Gwyn, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), specializing in creative writing and fiction. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Denver, an M.A. from Oklahoma State University, and a B.A. from East Central University. His research and creative work focus on fiction writing, with notable publications including the novel The World Beneath (W.W. Norton, 2009) and the short story collection Dog on the Cross (Algonquin Books, 2004).
Dr. Gwyn’s awards include a 2005 Fiction Fellowship from the North Carolina Council on the Arts and recognition for his short story Mate, selected by Stephen King as a 'Distinguished Story' in Best American Stories 2007. He teaches courses such as Writing Fiction (ENGL 6070/5203), American Literature (ENGL 3300), and Introduction to Fiction Writing (ENGL 2128).
His creative work has appeared in prestigious venues like The Gettysburg Review, Esquire, and McSweeney’s, showcasing his expertise in narrative structure, character development, and thematic depth. His grants and awards reflect his contributions to literary arts and creative writing education.
