Bryn Chancellor, M.F.A., is an Associate Professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Vanderbilt University, an M.A. in English Literature from Arizona State University, and a B.A. in English from Northern Arizona University. Her research focuses on fiction writing, creative nonfiction, contemporary American literature, psychogeography, and graphic narratives.
Chancellor’s award-winning works include the novel Sycamore (HarperCollins, 2017) and the short story collection When Are You Coming Home? (University of Nebraska Press, 2015), which won the Raz/Shumaker Prairie Schooner Book Prize. Her short fiction has appeared in prestigious journals like The Southern Review, Ecotone, and Cimarron Review.
Her honors include fellowships from the North Carolina, Alabama, and Arizona arts councils, as well as the Poets & Writers Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award. She has taught courses ranging from introductory fiction writing to advanced creative writing workshops and has presented at literary festivals including the Southern Festival of Books and the Virginia Festival of the Book.
Chancellor’s current projects include a novel and a linked short story collection. She has served on faculty at UNC Charlotte since 2015, previously holding an appointment at the University of Montevallo (2009–2015).
