Aaron Gluck-Thaler is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto’s Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy, holding the Professorship in Data Sciences. He is a Faculty Affiliate at The Citizen Lab. His research focuses on the history of surveillance, artificial intelligence, and Cold War science/technology.
Education:
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering, McGill University
- MSc in Social Science of the Internet, Oxford Internet Institute
- MSc in History of Science, Medicine & Technology, University of Oxford (Rhodes Scholar)
- PhD in History of Science, Harvard University
Research Interests: Investigates scientists' roles in 20th-century data-intensive surveillance. Current book project examines surveillance's historical roots in scientific practice. Explores intersections of technology, power, and epistemology.
