Professor AW (Dan) Tucker is a faculty member at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences and Department of Veterinary Medicine. He is a registered RCVS Specialist in Pig Medicine and Diplomate of the European College of Pig Health Management, providing global clinical expertise in pig health. His roles include Director of Studies in Veterinary Medicine and Preclinical Medicine at Pembroke College and Advisor for Global Health Assurance at Genus PIC.
His research focuses on controlling infectious diseases in pigs, particularly zoonoses threatening food security. He combines clinical insights with molecular epidemiology and social sciences to improve disease prevention strategies. He contributes to UK government policy through memberships in Xenotransplantation subgroups, Advisory Committees on Dangerous Pathogens, and Microbiological Safety of Food (serving as Deputy Chair until 2024).
He teaches Pig Medicine to 5th-year students and coordinates practical pig health management in the Farm Animal Studies rotation. His work intersects with Cambridge Global Food Security and Cambridge Infectious Diseases initiatives, supported by funding from BBSRC and DfID.
