Dr Harriet Auty is a Senior Lecturer in Infectious Disease Ecology at the University of Glasgow’s Institute for Biodiversity, Animal Health and Comparative Medicine. She holds a veterinary degree from the University of Liverpool and a conservation medicine intercalation, followed by a PhD from the University of Edinburgh on human African trypanosomiasis in Tanzania. Her career includes postdoctoral research at the University of Glasgow and the SRUC Epidemiology Research Unit in Inverness before joining the University of Glasgow in 2020.
- Expertise: Veterinary epidemiology, vector-borne diseases, disease transmission at wildlife-livestock interfaces, outbreak response strategies
- Key Projects: EPIC Centre for Animal Disease Outbreaks, ENABLES sleeping sickness control, Leverhulme-funded fly samplers for population genomics
Research interests focus on integrating ecological, veterinary, and social science approaches to improve disease control. Current work includes studying drug resistance in trypanosomes, tick-borne disease risk modeling, and policy implementation for zoonoses.
Supervises PhD students researching East Coast Fever, tick distribution, and atypical livestock viruses. Collaborates with Scottish Government on disease preparedness and global health initiatives through BBSRC and DFID funding.
