Associate Professor
Dmitry Vladimirovich Lyusin is an Associate Professor at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University) in Moscow, Russia, where he is affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Psychology. He also serves as a Leading Research Fellow at the Laboratory for Cognitive Research within the same institution. Additionally, since 2021, he has been a Leading Researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Psychology, Laboratory for Psychology and Psychophysiology of Creativity. Dr. Lyusin earned his Candidate of Sciences (PhD equivalent) in General Pedagogy, History of Pedagogy and Education from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1995, following his undergraduate degree from the same institution in 1988. His academic career includes positions as Associate Professor at Moscow State University for the Humanities (2000-2013) and Moscow State Social University (1996-2000). Dr. Lyusin's research focuses on the complex interplay between emotion and cognition, with particular emphasis on emotional information processing , emotion recognition , and emotional intelligence . His work explores how emotional states influence cognitive processes and how individuals process emotional stimuli across different cultural contexts. A significant portion of his research involves developing and validating measurement tools for emotional constructs, including the ENRuN database of emotional ratings for Russian nouns and the EmIn questionnaire for emotional intelligence assessment. Analysis of Dr. Lyusin's recent publications (2022-2025) reveals a consistent focus on emotional processing mechanisms, particularly the Emotional Stroop effect, emotion regulation strategies, and cross-cultural aspects of emotional intelligence. His work demonstrates sophisticated methodological approaches combining experimental paradigms with advanced data analysis techniques to uncover nuanced relationships between emotional states, cognitive processing, and individual differences. Best Teacher Award - 2022-2023 Best Teacher Award - 2019 Best Teacher Award - 2017 Dr. Lyusin has supervised numerous doctoral students, including Abdul-Raheem Mohammed from Ghana who successfully defended his dissertation on "The role of executive functions in emotion regulation" in 2022. His supervision spans diverse topics related to emotional processing, including mechanisms of positivity and negativity biases, perceptual biases in ensemble perception, and the role of emotion differentiation in regulation. He has been actively involved in organizing academic events, including the "Applied Cognitive Science" Summer School held by his laboratory. As a key member of the Laboratory for Cognitive Research at HSE University, Dr. Lyusin collaborates with an interdisciplinary team of researchers investigating the neural and cognitive mechanisms underlying emotional processing. His laboratory has developed important research tools like the ENRuN database, which provides normative emotional ratings for Russian nouns, facilitating cross-cultural comparisons in affective science.
