Nicolas Demaurex is a Full Professor in the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism at the University of Geneva's Faculty of Medicine, where he also serves as Vice-dean since 2012. His academic journey began with medical studies at the University of Geneva (1982-1989), followed by dual doctorates in Medicine and Biological Sciences in 1993, and Privat-Docent qualification in 2001. His research focuses on cellular mechanisms of signal transduction, particularly calcium signaling, ion channels, and oxidative stress. His laboratory investigates how mitochondria regulate calcium signaling, the function of proton channels in immune cells, and the physiological implications of these processes for cellular homeostasis and immune responses. His work bridges fundamental cell biology with physiological applications, revealing novel mechanisms in phagocytosis, mitochondrial dynamics, and organelle communication. Demaurex's publication record demonstrates consistent high-impact contributions, with articles appearing in Science, EMBO Journal, Journal of Experimental Medicine, and other leading journals. His research has been recognized with multiple recommendations from the Faculty of 1000, highlighting its significance in the field.
