Associate Professor
Dr. Paul Taylor is the Head of School for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Chester, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds an academic rank of Associate Professor and has a robust research profile spanning criminology, sociology, and mental health policy. His research focuses on mental health in criminal justice settings, occupational health risks in high-stress professions (e.g., policing, military service), and the well-being of public service workers. Paul has contributed to over 60 publications, including works on veterans’ reintegration, military-civilian policing dynamics, and mental health stigma. His educational background includes a PhD and MBA from the University of Chester, alongside degrees in Criminology and Social Policy. Paul has held roles such as Chief External Examiner at Manchester Metropolitan University and has served on committees like the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group and the Public Protection Committee (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). He is also a Senior Fellow since 2016. Teaching and supervision activities include leading the criminology program and supervising doctoral students on topics like stigma in education and prisoner reintegration. Paul’s work bridges academic research and practical policy, aiming to address systemic challenges in mental health care, criminal justice reform, and occupational well-being.
