Ricks Allan

Ricks Allan is an Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University (ECU). He has worked in the insurance industry for 20 years before joining ECU in 1998. Dr. Allan holds a Doctor Philosophiae from South Africa (1992). His research focuses on apology mechanisms, developmental psychology, and psychometric assessments in forensic contexts. He has supervised numerous doctoral students in areas like offender rehabilitation and legal psychology.

Key research interests include apology acceptance dynamics, sexual behavior norms in nightlife settings, and ethical-legal aspects of psychological practice. His work bridges psychology, law, and criminology, with over 30 publications since 2001. Notable contributions include studies on bystander intervention in sexual violence prevention and the impact of apology voluntariness in restorative justice.

Dr. Allan received the 2001 Award of Excellence in Postgraduate Support from ECU’s Postgraduate Student Association. His supervisory roles span co-principal and associate supervision across diverse topics like forensic psychometrics and victim-offender dynamics.
