Senior Lecturer
Dr. Mathieu Sarracanie is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen. As an MR physicist, he specializes in methodological developments for low-field MRI, including fast imaging techniques, multi-parametric imaging, and RF detection instrumentation. His work has led to significant contributions in accessible neuroimaging through co-founding the AMT Center (formerly at University of Basel, now at University of Aberdeen) and the portable MRI company Hyperfine. Education : Biomedical Engineering (Université Toulouse III/Université de Technologie de Compiègne), Ph.D. in Physics (Université Paris-Sud, 2011) His research focuses on low-field MRI innovations, enabling point-of-care diagnostics and expanding imaging capabilities in resource-constrained environments. Recent work includes deep learning for accelerated acquisitions, field cycling imaging, and elastography validity criteria. From 2011-2016, he conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University and the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. Publications highlight expertise in low-field MRI , quantitative imaging , MR elastography , and biomedical instrumentation . The AMT Center under his leadership raised £3.5M in competitive funding, including Swiss National Science Foundation fellowships.
