Professor Marcos Rodrigues is the Head of the Geometric Modelling and Pattern Recognition (GMPR) Group at Sheffield Hallam University, within the Communication and Computing Research Centre and Culture and Creativity Research Institute. His research focuses on pattern recognition, sensor design, and 3D imaging with applications in robotics, medical engineering, security, and animation. He has pioneered world-leading technologies in fast 3D acquisition and data compression, earning patents and over 20 grants from EPSRC, EU, and industry.
He teaches MSc courses in Artificial Intelligence, Network Applications, and Operating Systems. His work spans over 200 publications, emphasizing machine learning, medical informatics, and cybersecurity. Notable projects include the GMPR's 3D digitization of Sheffield Metalwork Collection and initiatives like MARWIN (Advertising Monitoring) and ADMOS (Outdoor Media Analytics).
Research interests include AI-driven healthcare monitoring, facial expression analysis for patient risk assessment, and secure cloud computing. He has supervised PhD students in compression algorithms, medical imaging, and cybersecurity. His labs focus on advancing 3D reconstruction, data security, and real-time systems.
