Professor Diane Daly serves as the Head of Strings at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) and is a member of the Irish Chamber Orchestra since 1997. She holds a PhD in Arts Practice Research focusing on embodied pedagogy and Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Her work bridges classical performance, innovative education, and interdisciplinary creativity. She founded Libra Strings and the ICO Academy Projects, emphasizing holistic musician development through embodiment and creativity. Education includes a PhD from the Irish Research Council (2019), with prior roles as Course Director for the MA in Classical String Performance at the University of Limerick. Her research explores the intersection of movement, performance, and pedagogy, resulting in methodologies like Creative Embodied String Performance (CESP). Research interests span Dalcroze Eurhythmics, body mapping for musicians, and the application of embodied learning to enhance performance and teaching practices. She has pioneered projects such as 'Music Factory,' a multidisciplinary summer camp, and 'Féile Eile,' an arts festival for children. Notable awards include the 2022 Aloys Fleischmann Prize for practice-based research. Her publications focus on embodied pedagogy, creativity, and autoethnography in music performance and education. Prof. Daly’s career combines performance with advocacy for holistic musician training, fostering autonomy, joy, and self-expression through innovative methodologies.
