Francesca Rendle-Short is an Honorary Professor and Associate Dean of Writing and Publishing in the School of Media and Communication at RMIT University. She leads the non/fictionLab research group and co-founded WrICE (Writers Immersion and Cultural Exchange), an international collaborative residency program. Her academic roles include supervising PhD students in creative practice research and leading interdisciplinary projects with organizations like STREAT and Jakarta Post B/DNL Studio X-CoLab.
She holds a Doctor of Creative Arts from the University of Wollongong and was a recipient of the International Nonfiction Writers' Fellowship at the University of Iowa. Her research interests span queer theory, transnational literatures, experimental writing, and ethical storytelling. Francesca's creative work includes award-winning novels, memoirs, and poetry, with her books such as The near and the far (Vol I and II) and Bite your tongue appearing in journals like TEXT, Fourth Genre, and Best Australian Science Writing.
Her industry collaborations include the Gazette project with the Emerging Writers' Festival and a City of Melbourne Knowledge Week initiative. Francesca has also led cultural exchange programs and study tours to China under the New Colombo Plan. Her creative practice emphasizes collaboration, intercultural dialogue, and subverting normative literary forms.
