Constantinos Christofides serves as Professor of Physics and Rector of the University of Cyprus, a position held since his election in November 2010. He has been integral to the institution since 1992, previously serving as Vice-President and President of the Department of Physics, and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. His career is deeply intertwined with the university's research development at local and European levels. His educational foundation includes undergraduate studies at the University of Grenoble and postgraduate work at the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble, funded by a French Government scholarship. This background established his trajectory in experimental physics and materials characterization. Christofides' research spans applied optics, quantum optics, and optoelectronic semiconductor studies, with significant extensions into green energy systems, environmental sensors, and optical archaeometry. His work bridges fundamental light-matter interactions with practical applications in energy technology and cultural heritage preservation, demonstrating consistent interdisciplinary innovation. His publication record from 1993-2000 reveals a concentrated focus on semiconductor characterization through optical and photothermal methods. Key themes include defect analysis in ion-implanted materials, annealing kinetics, and sensor development, reflecting a cohesive research program in solid-state physics with applications in industrial diagnostics and renewable energy. He pioneered the University's Liaison Office with Industry and Business, creating critical pathways for academic-industry collaboration. This initiative significantly advanced technology transfer and research commercialization, positioning the university as a regional innovation hub while securing European-level research partnerships.
