Martin Weigel

Martin Weigel is a Professor in Computational Physics at the Institute of Physics, Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany. Previously, he held positions as Senior Lecturer (2011) and Reader in Theoretical Physics (2013–2020) at Coventry University. He earned his PhD in physics from the University of Leipzig, focusing on quantum gravity via dynamical triangulations. His postdoctoral work included roles at the University of Waterloo (Canada) and Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh), supported by a Marie Curie Fellowship. He led the Emmy Noether Research Group on disordered systems at Mainz University (2008–2011).

Research interests span advanced Monte Carlo methods, disordered systems (spin glasses, random fields), quantum gravity, and applications of statistical mechanics to social systems. He emphasizes algorithm development for complex energy landscapes and GPU-based simulations of lattice models. Active in organizing conferences and supervising students, he welcomes highly motivated researchers in theoretical and computational physics.

Scientific contributions include studies on phase transitions, critical phenomena, and optimization techniques for complex systems. His work has been recognized through prestigious fellowships and numerous peer-reviewed publications.
