Dr. Tit-Yee Wong is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Memphis, where he has served since 1985. He is also affiliated with the Bioinformatics Program. His research focuses on microbial physiology, bioenergetics, and genomic stop signals, with contributions to understanding bacterial radioresistance, nucleoid architecture, and environmental toxicology. He teaches courses in microbiology, microbial ecology, and bacterial physiology. Education: BS (1974) and MS (1975) from Murray State University, KY; PhD (1981) from the University of Houston, TX. Postdoctoral studies at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Biology Department, specializing in biochemistry, cell biology, and microbiology. Research Interests: Bioenergetics of Azotobacter vinelandii and Deinococcus radiodurans; stop codon ratios in bacterial genomes; microbial response to environmental stressors like smog and heavy metals. He pioneered concepts such as the 'Chandelier Hypothesis' explaining nucleoid structure dynamics and proposed the use of genomic stop signals for phylogenetic analysis.
