Dr Lucy Jackson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Durham University, affiliated with the Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies. Her research focuses on ancient Greek tragedy, satyr plays, and comedy in the Classical period (500-323 BCE), alongside their reception in early modern and contemporary periods. She explores intersections between performance theory, textual transmission, and cultural memory, particularly regarding choral performance in antiquity and its adaptations across time. Her work bridges classical scholarship and early modern literature, analyzing how Greek drama influenced Renaissance translations and university performances. Notable publications include The Chorus of Drama in the Fourth Century BCE (2019) and articles on Nicholas Grimald’s 16th-century translations of Euripides. Recent research emphasizes kinaesthetic empathy in Plato’s Laws and pedagogical uses of Latin drama in Renaissance schools.
