Owen Hodkinson

Dr. Owen Hodkinson is an Associate Professor of Greek and Roman Cultures at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies under the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. His expertise spans epistolary literature, Second Sophistic, and classical reception in modern children's/YA literature.

Research projects include Our Mythical Childhood, analyzing classical myth’s cultural impact, and studies on ancient love letters. As co-organizer of the first international conference on classical receptions in children's literature, he emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches. His publications explore Hercules’ masculinity, Medusa’s feminist reclamation, and Philostratus’ intertextuality.

He contributes to multiple research groups including the Classics Popular Culture Research Network and Centre for World Literatures. Current editorial work focuses on Ancient Love Letters: Form, Themes, Approaches (2023), and he offers postgraduate research opportunities in classical reception studies.
