Jun.-Prof. Dr. Yu-chin TSENG is an Assistant Professor of Modern Taiwan Studies at the University of Tübingen's Department of Chinese Studies. She concurrently serves as Co-Director of the CCKF-European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan. Her research focuses on migration, citizenship, China-Europe relations, and transnational families. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Essex (2015) and has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Tübingen and the University of Essex.
Her academic career includes visiting professorships at Inner Mongolia University (China) and teaching roles in sociology and migration studies. She serves on editorial boards for journals such as Journal of Current Chinese Affairs and Translocal Chinese, and actively contributes to public discourse through media commentary on Taiwanese immigration policies and Chinese diaspora dynamics.
Current research projects include studies on intimacy-state dynamics in authoritarian democracies (funded by BMBF) and China's pandemic-era political communication in Europe. She has received grants including the Teach at Tübingen Fund (2021) and the Essex Sociology Small Grants Award (2012-2014).
Her teaching portfolio includes courses on Taiwanese urban studies, qualitative research methods, and Chinese migration histories. She advises projects on transnational social spaces and migrant entrepreneurship.
