Yong ZHANG is an Assistant Professor of Urban Studies at the College of Integrative Studies, Singapore Management University (SMU). His research focuses on urban governance, critical economic geography, and socio-spatial transformations in China and Southeast Asia. He previously served as a Lecturer in Social Science (Urban Studies) at Yale-NUS College.
Education: PhD in Geography (University of Manchester, 2022), MSc in Urban and Regional Planning (Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, 2016), BA in Geography (Sun Yat-sen University, 2013).
Research interests include urban governance frameworks, entrepreneurial urbanism in China, and comparative studies across Asia. He is completing a book, Entrepreneurial Urbanism with Chinese Characteristics, critiquing China’s urban governance models. Teaching areas span urban theory, urban China, planning theory, and community development.
