Yamini Narayanan is an Associate Professor and ARC Future Fellow at Deakin University's Alfred Deakin Institute within the Faculty of Arts and Education. She researches animal geopolitics, multispecies ethnography, and animal labor in South Asia, with projects on brick kilns and borderland animal-state relations.
Her award-winning book 'Mother Cow, Mother India' explores dairy politics and Hindu nationalism. She teaches courses on development and sustainability while supervising PhD candidates in pluriversal politics, digital authoritarianism, and food waste ethnography.
Honors include the Mid Career Researcher Book Prize (2024) and President's Book Prize (2024). As founding convenor of Deakin Critical Animal Studies Network, she promotes interspecies justice through publications in Hypatia, Geoforum, and Annals of the AAG.
