Tyler Stark joined Lenoir-Rhyne University in Fall 2024 as Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music. He leads the 80-member Spirit of LR Marching Band and directs the university’s Wind Symphony and Ensemble.

Stark’s research focuses on collaborative and dialogic music teaching methodologies, fostering student listening skills, and integrating modern audio-visual technology in wind band performances. He is an active Irish music scholar and arranger for marching band music in North Carolina.
Prior to Lenoir-Rhyne, Stark served as Director of Bands at Central Cabarrus High School and as a graduate teaching associate for the University of Oklahoma Marching Band. He presents music education research at regional and national U.S. conferences.
His responsibilities include coordinating with local music educators, promoting LR’s music programs, and innovating wind band programming.
